Answer
I have been waiting for a post like this. I just recently wrote a research paper on Why Hitler Was A Poor Military Leader. Besides being born Hitler made a number of blunders that may have cost him the war. He was a very poor student but made up for it in leadership skills. Dunkirk was a large mistake that he made. Hitler wanted to remove tanks from the Flanders Marshes and was able to do so because of the backing of the Luftwaffe. One catch, the Luftwaffe did nothing. So thousands of men were able to escape. Hitler also made the mistake of attacking Russia during the Winter. HELLO! The Siberian Winter is about degrees colder than in Germany. Plus Hitler failed to concentrate his forces in one place. He scattered them throughout Russia. He also ordered that the ME be fitted with bombs for use as a bomber, this drastically slowed down the production of the aircraft. Hitler was very good at remembering specific details which led to the distrust in his high officials. He arranged his command staff so that everything went through him. Any Argument could blow his fuse and usually resulted in the dismissal or replacement of that official. Hitler also had poor sleeping habits. On the June , Hitler decided to sleep in late making it impossible for Rundstedt to order tanks to Normandy. He always talked about his military experience from WWI but actually his experience was limited. Hitler would insist that something be changed to his liking no matter what his cabinet suggested. Hitler would also procrastinate horribly, putting off a decision for days and even weeks. After he made a decision he would constantly make changes to it no matter what time of day and if anyone tried to disagree with him he would become enraged and stop the discussion of the matter immediately. So there is a few reasons why Hitler was a bad military leader and some mistakes that he made.
