Answer

Hi! I quotsurvivedquot Freshmen year, as many love to put it. Dont worryits not some survival game!brbrBut dont let that stereotypical Freshmen labels bring you down seriously, its not worth it. DO try to shine in the classroom, get to know your teachers, and join clubs or organizations. Youre preparing for college after all, and high school will be the best and sometimes the worst days of your educational career. Its the time after coasting with ease through middle school and the rigorous life of a young adult where the responsibilities seem to just pile on. After all, excellent grades and attitudes will lead to a fine GPA and teacher recommendations, which will help you greatly in the future. And really, youll find that some teachers will be the coolest people youve ever had the fortune to meet. Trust me. brbrIn terms of workload, you should be expecting greater responsibility for assignments. No quotI forgot, quot or quotI overslept.quot Teachers will have expected you to ask another classmate what the work was for when you were out, or, if your school posts assignments online, PLEASE check their as frequently as possible. It will only lead to good! You may also find a really great teacher whose class you love to death, and will learn to love a subject you had little interest in the year beforeespecially if its an upperlevel or honors course. Such classes are more rigorous than regular courses, but the teachers there really know their subjects indepth, and your understanding of the material will be much greater. Not to mention the people youll meet and the ideas youll exchange!brbrNow for extracurricular activities your basic clubs, organizations, sports, or community service.brbrPick one or two that you are passionate about or have some interest in. And stick with them throughout your years. But this is your first year, so youre given a little break. Treat Freshmen year like a quotshopping period, quot where you discover who you are and what youre interested in. Find something that year? Good for you! Now stay with it! For instance, I joined my schools Drama club, Im a member of the band, and I volunteer. I plan to stick with Drama and Band, as well as joining the Spanish club in my upcoming Sophomore year. brbrI know it is a little early to be thinking about college ugh, its ridiculous, right? but if you can, try to establish yourself, be a bit outgoing, and take a position of leadership is the clubsport you take up! It really makes a difference for the coming years of high school, and it actually can be exciting to have that leading role and take charge.brbrSports are great, too, and its very easy to cultivate relationships with your teammates. Sports are seasonal, so youll find out when you can join certain teams. If theres a sport youve never been able to try in middle school, I say go for it. A few of my friends took up crew rowing, others volleyball, and they have learned some great skills and made friends rather quickly. brbrThe absolute mega important thing is to stay organized and do not procrastinate!! No allnighters or midnighters. Your parents might also realize that youre losing sleep, theyll force you to bed, and your work isnt finished. It could be a fiasco! Study with buddies, if you can, and find a method that suits you best. Work is hard? See your teachers! Theyre teaching you for a reason and would be happy to help out.brbrLocker organization is a biggie as well. You could invest in a locker organizer, get postits, locker highlighters, etc. to keep everything together. Remember, the teachers are assuming that you know how to keep your work in a neat place, clean and stapled, and for you have that calculator at hand for math class. The first two weeks youll be provided with some time to adjust and settle in, but after that, youre on your own. Not to worry, though, thats what we have friends for! brbrDont forget that high schools not all work, either we have pep rallies, football games, bandorchestrachorus concerts, and some schools hold an Olympics where all four grades compete against one another. Spirit days pajama day, crazy hair day, etc. might be in the works, and as you progress throughout your years, it all becomes academically more challenging, yes, but the privileges are greater!brbrAlso associate with likable members of your classclass of , I assume? Yeah, when you graduate youll remember these people who you grew up with and made memories with. Its all going towards senior year, that moment were all waiting for!brbrGOOD LUCK TO YOU! DbrbrSara
